Knitter Down!

My hand is still sore from knitting Miss Dashwood this weekend. What am I going to do!???? I have been taking IB Proferin for the pain and my wonderful friend Karen (who needs to update her blog *caugh* *caugh*) gave me a very relaxing hand massage this weekend. I am now working on the cutest baby blanket for another friend of mine. I am making Wild Stripes. I am only on the third color but it already looks so cute! I can't wait until it is done and see her face when she opens up the gift. In other news. I have nothing to do at work for the moment. My inbox is empty YES! So what am I doing? Blogging and knitting of course! Oh and I brought Bella to work again. She is such a good work dog. She is just laying next to me right now dozing. I brougt Bob to work yesterday because it was his birthday. He is a bad work dog. He was here not even 5 minutes and peed on a box of office supplies...bad dog! LOL Also a co-worker found a softball and Bob got all excited. Good dog at home...bad dog at work :)

My first knitting injury

Well staying up late and working the bobbles for the Miss Dashwood hat for my friend has giving me an official knitting injury....my first. urgh! On a weekend too. I usually just knit on the weekends. I am taking some time off because I really really really don't want to hurt my hand more and then not be able to knit at all. I would die!

Oh Canada!

Here are pictures of the "Oh Canada!" hat for my friend. If I were to do another one I would 1. Use colors of the same yarn weights. 2. Make the maple leaf start right after the ribbing. 3. I knit the red a bit too tight. I thought about doing it over again but I think it looks good enough to give as a gift and I am so lazy. If I am giving a gift to a non-knitter a few minor mistakes I let slide :) bad I know.

Bobbles are not for me

So I am making Miss. Dashwood for a friend who is having a baby this spring. After staying up late last night getting through the bobble rows I have officially decided that I do not like them, that I need ice for my hands and that I will never make the Baby Tart hat. I will post a picture when I finish. Another picture I need to post after my lazy butt gets batteries in the camera is my "oh Canada" hat. I made for another friend who is expecting a boy this summer.

Dogs at work...yay!

So we have this new dog....new to us. She is about 2 1/2 and we got her on craigslist. We already had a dog at home and wanted another one for a long time. Bella is a black lab mix and has a very big chewing problem when she is left alone too long in the house. So last night I came home to 3 of my things chewed up: a very cool fabric colored asian themed box, my mousepad, and a cloth diaper that I had already sold on ebay. Why were these things on the floor for her to chew you ask? Well they weren't they were actually out of the way where a normal dog would not think to go. So last night I had had enough of her chewing up my stuff. So today I took her to work to see how her temperment was......awesome!!!!!!! I am going to try to take her every day now. The people at my shop don't mind but I know one of the owners does not like dogs at work. Thankfully he isn't here every day :)

Babys Babys Babys!!!!

So I have two baby showers to go to the second week of February. What does that mean? That means my knitting hands need to get super busy and knit up cute little baby items. For one friend I am knitting a top down seamless yoked sweater out of some baby yarn I had around and the other friend who is Canadian is having a little boy and they are moving to Toronto this summer. So I am going to make him a hat with the Canadian flag on it and socks to match. I wish I had time to make a red sweater to go with it but I don't think that I do. I will do my darndest to try though! :) In other news. GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Official Entrant in the 2006 Knitting Olympics!

I am on the page now along with many many many other people. I am going to make the Shadir hat from Knitty's breast cancer issue. I decided on this hat due to the recent lumpectomy. Thankfully my tumor was benign but it still opened my eyes and I wanted to do some sort of tribute to the many many many women who are affected by breast cancer daily. Thankfully I already have some pale pink yarn to use :)

It's a Major Award!

I got my prize for the Secret Pal 7 button contest yesterday. Oh it is so gorgeos. I have no clue what do do with it right now. In total it is 218 yards of beautiful chunky 100% baby alpaca. At first I thought it was my secret pal gift but then there was a name on the package and I was confused for a few hours then I remembered that Kerry had told me to be looking for it. LOL!!! Every day though since my first little message from my secret pal I have been like Ralphie in a Christmas Story checking the mail every day! hehe!

Olympic Fever!

I am tempted to train and compete in the 2006 Knitting Olympics. I have no clue what I am going to attempt. Can I do a clapotis in that amount of time? That is the next thing I want to accomplish and I already have the yarn for it. Any Ideas?????/

What Else Can Go Wrong????????????

So as I am driving home from a nice trip to Village Yarn and Tea on Sunday I am about 2 miles from home and there is all of this smoke (or what looked like smoke to me) coming out of the hood of my car. So going through my head - hmmm drive home and risk it (two children in the backseat) or pull over (no cell phone) I figured our lives were more important than risking driving home so I pulled off of the freeway got out lifted the hood. I guess it was just steam at least that is what my husband told me later. And antifreeze all over the place. So I stand there for a while NO ONE PULLS OVER!!!! What is freaking wrong with people??? I am crying...then I pray...then someone pulls over. Oh did I mention that my husband and I are a one car household and I was driving that one car :) So I call my hubby just to let him know, then my mom (not home) then my MIL (not home). Thankfully these nice people offered us a ride. Riley had to sit on my lap but thankfully we didn't get pulled over. So my DH goes with his dad gets the car brings it home then later he drove it to the mechanics (where my BIL works) and put our key in the drop box with a note.......it gets better! The owner of the shop calls my DH at work the next day to let him know that our car was broken into that night! WTF!!! And of course the shop is not liable for damage because they were not technically in posession of the car yet. URGH!!! And the stupid fuckers that broke into our car didn't even freaking steal anything. Oh and our radiator is out in our car so that will cost $500 and then we have a $500 deductable for our insurance company. The window needs to be fixed and this punk messed up the dash and our radio in the car. And my lovely company decided to pay us yesterday which is a holiday :) It is times like these that I need to remember I do have a lot of things to be thankful for. My children, my health (remember the breast cancer scare from nov) and the fact that I can still nurse my son after a lumpectomy, and KNITTING!....oh and my wonderful DH :) (sorry honey)

A bit about me

I thought hey blog land really doesn't know much about me other than my very random 100 things. Here is me in a nutshell now. I am 27...will be 28 this summer. Married for almost 4 years. I have two children Riley is 2 1/2 and Jake is 6 months old. I work FT for a printing company as a graphic designer/desktop publisher. In my free time I try to spend as much time as I can with the hubby and kids I meet my friends (whom I have met through La Leche League and my church mom's group and one really good college buddy) and we do SNBs. I have two dogs (black lab mixes) I also have my 10 year high school reunion this summer so I am on my way to loose 50 pounds by this summer. YEAH RIGHT! LOL actually I have lost 50 already since Jake was born. That is me in a nutshell right now :)

Ok secret pal I apologize. I made a few modifications to my questionaire. They are noted in purple. I filled out my questionaire while I was at work and I think I rushed through it a bit. Oh and I have to say how freaking cool it is that we are both nursing toddlers!!!! What a wonderful and special thing to have in common.

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? I prefer natural fibers but I am not snobby when it comes to gifts. I love knitting so much I will take what I get :) However, if I am buying myself something I will choose a natural fiber first. Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Actually no. I did get some older Red Heart from my mom to practice a few socks. 2. Do you spin? Crochet? No but I have been thinking of taking up crocet but will it take away from my knitting time? :) 3. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? I got a cheap Art Bin case from Joann's and then I made a simple needle case out of fabric. 4. How long have you been knitting? I started Knitting when I was pregnant with my son in 2004. Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? Socks are done

And my toddler loves them! Yes! Look at her posing. I finished up the second one last night. I thought about trying to make the stripes match up in the yarn for about ....umm...a second :)

They are for a silly little girl and I think not having the stripes match just adds personality to them.

What does everyone else do when they are using self striping yarn?

Knit Night

So my good friend Karen and I went to Village Yarn and Tea shop for knit night last night. I happened to meet fellow blogger Fiber Freak while I was there. I never thought I would actually meet another blogger in person! It was fun. We spent most of our time crusing around the shop. I brought my 6 month old Jake with me but next time I think he will be ok if I just feed him before we go. He was getting pretty cranky and for some reason he kept sweating in the shop. Well I am off to finish my second sock for Riley.

First Sock!!!

Yay I just finished my first sock ever! I was making it for myself but I was doing it at a smaller guage than the pattern called for and halfway through realized that it would fit my toddler better than myself :) That's ok. This yarn suits her better anyway. Ok I am off to start the second sock!

New Year's Shopping

Had some fun with a friend today and hit a sale at Acorn Street. They had bamboo yarn for 1/2 off. I am really excited to start some socks with the long circular needle. The Holiday Knits was from Barnes & Noble my friend and I are splitting it. There are some really great projects in this book. We were joking about how only a knitter would be thinking about next years xmas a week after xmas.
