Happy Birthday to MEEEEE!!!!

28 years ago I was born.

I have THE BEST freaking husband ever! Look just look at what he got me!

First I have been wanting this for a very long time and second I am still in shock that he went out and bought this for me knowing how much it cost. I thought for sure this would have to be an underground purchase but no! Not to mention he used his purchase on a punch card as well to go to future free purchases!

And! He went shopping with both of our children by himself and went to three places before he found one. What a trooper!

And yes it is late and I am tearing apart my daughter's drawing corner so I can wind each and every ball and piece of yarn that I own.

Look Ma! No Pattern!

I just made my first ever sock without referring to a pattern. I am so proud of myself!

In other news can we say HOT! The weather here is scorching! It actually might not rain on my birthday this year!

Had a great weekend. Riley spent the weekend with my parents. Saturday Paul went to work so it was just me and Jake for most of the day. We walked down to the thrift store and I bought some clothes that fit me (loosing weight and throwing away the fat pants). Well we locked ourselves out of the house. Thankfully it was nice out so we hung out in the front yard until Paul got home.

Then we watched Syriana......sucked! I did not like it at all. It could have been so much better but it was just too slow and confusing for me.

Then took the dogs to the local off leash park. That was fun. Then dinner and home to our hot house.

Sunday I had the best day with my good friend Corey. Our husbands went hiking in eastern Washington and we shopped! Yes! We went to the U Village sidewalk sale and had lunch at yummy Zao then we went up to Acorn Street to pick out yarn for a baby sweater. She bought and I will knit. I picked up some cotton fingering weight yarn in a cucumbery color and some size 0 dpns for socks and some DK weight yarn to edge Ried in. Then the girls and Jake went back to her place and sat and knit and visited and waited for our tired boys to come home. It was a good day :)

Another gift for baby trout

I had more than a skein of the Debbie Bliss left so I made another hat. I am on the Sweater Babe mailing list and she sent out this cute free pattern. Of course Riley has to help model. She is saying "smiole!"

It's a.......

BOY!!!!! My friend is having a boy. So I won't be knitting pink flowers. But I am still thinking this little outfit needs something else. I think I am going to sew up some cute pants or something. I am in the process now of knitting matching shoes.

I am not normally a washer

I don't usually wash the knit gifts that I make before I give them away. I like the newness of the yarn and I think that washing takes just a bit of that away.....well today I have no choice.

I had my secret suprise baby gift for my wonderful friend who is pregnant blocking behind my husbands recliner as this seemed to be the only secure place in the house. Was I wrong about that. I thought I had strategically placed full laundry baskets around the access ways for little people to stay out of the area but I forgot about the agile ways of babies.

Jake got back there somehow with banana in hand and mucked up some of the pieces. Dang it all! It was ready to finish up today too. So now I will be washing my first gift and blocking again and keeping a stricter eye on my children. Below is a picture of the gift from yesterday. Yes a cute baby sweater! Hopefully the sex will be found out tomorrow and if it is a girl I plan on knitting up a flower to place on the lower front corner.

Thanks Pal!

Thanks for the cute e-card. I needed some gushing my way :)

Vintage find

So a little bit ago I got some yarn from my local Freecycle group. The gal said it was old. There were about a dozen skeins of this mercerized cotton from Bucilla. I guess it might be from the 1950's. It is knitting up really nice and doesn't even feel that old.

Purchase and Score!

Went to I Heart Rummage today with Karen. It was the last one until the fall. There are some pretty cool buys there. I didn't spend a whole lot. Found some cute button magnets and some buttons to wear and that was it. I was saving my money to purchase yarn for a very special baby that is cooking right now.

In the left in the picture is my local freecycle score. I actually got a lot more than that but that is all I am keeping. It is about 10 or so skeins of old mercerized cotton and all the same dye lot too! I was searching for yarn today to make a Bolero pattern for Riley and I am glad I didn't buy anything I think this will work.

To the left is the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran that I bought for a very special baby gift for a very special baby. I don't think I will be posting progress for this special gift as I know my very dear friend of almost 10 years reads this blog. So I will have to take pictures then just post after I give her this gift *wink*. What I will say is that I don't know yet if this will be a boy or a girl but I just found the cutest thing to make and had to get going on it. This color is a very nice steely blue. (Is steely a word?) Grey blue? You know what I mean? Anyway it isn't too masculine for a girl and isn't too girlish for a boy. I hope she likes!

Can it be done?

Can an almost three year old successfully learn to knit? Seriously. My daughter is very interested in learning to knit. I think it would be great for her to learn but can she really get it at this young of an age?

Oh and the next picture is Jake enjoying my new shipment from Knit Picks.
